Hippolytus Albertus Maria, ° 24.12.1824; + 3.11.1881. Also spelled "Van de Kerkhove" or "Vandekerchove" in the directories. On advertising card, "Gilder, ornamentist and photographer. All types of frames. Passe-partouts of any size to order". This card, c. 1872, features the photographer rising from a grave, apparently a humorous allusion to his name, which literally translates as "from the graveyard" in Dutch. Patent of 25.6.1862 for "a type of photographic copying" [simultaneous or consecutive printing of different portraits on CVs]. Recorded as a gilder on his death certificate.
