° 18.7.1796; + 31.3.1871. Justice at the Court of First Instance in Ghent. It was in his home that François Braga and Joseph Pelizzaro (see those names) conducted their first experiments. He became an amateur daguerreotypist himself. In 1842 the "Académie royale des sciences de Belgique" published the results of his research into improving exposure time (5 to 40 seconds) using bromine as an "accelerating substance".
