In the population registry: "fishmonger and shopkeeper" (Longue Rue Porte aux Vaches, 7<58> then 61<59-64>), then "tradesman", then "tradesman and photographer" in 1875. CV with no name, 1864 ca. Advertisement stating simply "Photography". In 1866 he sold photographs showing the damage caused by the fire in the "Groote Gans" warehouse for the victims’ benefit (these photographs were also sold by Tessaro). Certain CVs only bear the name of the studio. In 1881 there was a "Photographische Associatie des Minderbroedersrui" [= du Canal des Récollets]. "Phototypie Anversoise" was another trade name he used.

Portraits of actors printed in carbon for the front page of the periodical "La Scène", a publication for season ticket holders at the "Théâtre Royal d'Anvers" from 1875 until 1877. On 6.6.1885, a delegation of 12 Congolese people led by 'king Massala' (who was in fact not royal but a simple interpreter) was photographed in Van den Bemden's studio. The group formed part of the 'human zoo' at the 1885 World's Fair in Antwerp. Van den Bemden was elected senator for the Catholic party in 1884, then member of the House of Representatives from 1889 until his death in 1900.
