Théodore Guillaume Alexandre, ° 21.6.1856. Photo-engraver and postcard publisher. Philately dealer in Brussels in 1880. Emigrated to the USA in 1881 where he was a philately dealer in New York City in 1883. Shortly after gaining American citizenship in July 1897, he returned to Brussels. Van den Heuvel opened a stationer's at this address in 1898 and then soon branched out into postcard publishing. Picture postcards of Belgian towns and the coast. "Copying of old masters, views of Brussels and provinces, colour photographs of all corners of the globe, postage stamps for collectors, picture postcards" [Monod, 1900]. He offered for sale over 3000 different subjects in 1900. On an advertising postcard, "Our speciality: packets of 25 different postcards, views of Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges, Namur, Ostend, or the Meuse. Price: 1 franc. These cards are not the trash sold generally on the streets but finely executed collotype cards."
