He trained as an artist at the academy in Sint-Niklaas around 1855 and exhibited two landscapes at the Salon in Ghent in 1883. Recorded as a painter aged 34 resident in Hamme in June 1867. On CV, 1880 ca, "Van Haver - Poppé, painter and photographer". Listed as a photographer in directories in 1887 and 1888 only.
