° 3.1.1811; + 25.10.1881. Third professional photographer in Belgium, active one month after the opening of the Brand and the Beard studios in Brussels. "Daguerreotype portraits, guaranteed likeness [...] Daily from 10.30 am to noon" (Journal de Liège, 21.4.1842). In June 1842 he formed a partnership with Adolphe Kips - de Koppin (see that name) which lasted several months. Then Van Malderen appears to have left Liège until 1848. In 1850 he was a cloth merchant and in 1857 he was a clerk at the state armaments factory.

Domiciled at no. 7 in this street from 22.6.1852 onwards. Patent of 31.1.1861 for "a process for embellishing photographic prints with drawings" (probably in the name of his son Joseph, operator at his father’s studio). In 1879 he was registered as a clerk and photographer. Recorded as a first class clerk at the "Manufacture d'Armes de l'État" domiciled at this address on his death certificate.
