1890 - 1892 [Congo Free State]
Left for the Congo in mid-1890 and stayed there for over two years. Manager of the Belgian house at Yambinga, where he resided for a few months. Gave multiple talks with slide projections about his journey, notably at the "Société Royale Belge de Géographie" on 2.3.1893 (titled "From Matadi to Basoko") and at the "Société d'Anthropologie de Bruxelles" on 25.3.1893, where he showed a series of images of native tattoos. During a visit to the royal palace in July 1893 with his fellow members of the "Fraternelle congolaise", he presented King Léopold II with an album of photographs he had taken in the Upper Congo (Le Soir, 17.7.1893). Quite possibly Henri Joseph Armand Van Mons (° Brussels - Ixelles, 11.5.1861; + Brussels - Ixelles, 18.4.1921), recorded as an exchange agent.
