Joseph Jean, ° 15.12.1853; + late November 1890. Slightly younger brother of Louis Van Neck and “member of our committee” (Hélios illustré, 1.12.1890). Active in the family business "Van Neck - Prégaldino", dealers in rope and cord, sailcloth and tents, grain and seeds. Travelling on a scientific and commercial mission to Egypt, Van Neck “died on board the Yang-Tsé, on the crossing from Marseille to Alexandria (Journal de Bruxelles, 29.11.1890). He was reportedly swept overboard by a giant wave while standing on the ship’s deck.
