° 30.8.1796; + 16.10.1863. A mirror manufacturer, Verdot arrived in Verviers in 1833 and set up a factory for manufacturing and annealing shearing blades. A scholar and journalist, he wrote for the "Journal de Verviers", 1836-1842. The first optician in Verviers, he regularly brought in supplies from the optician Leplat (see that name) in Paris. In collaboration with this same Leplat "from Paris", an itinerant, he succeeded in producing the first daguerreotypes in Verviers in October and November 1843. After Leplat’s visit, Verdot appears to have taken no further interest in photography.
