Life dates
Otterington [Yorkshire, GB], 1827 - Antwerp - Borgerhout, 1887
Activity
1865 - 1868 / Malines, Rue Notre-Dame, 73
Predecessor: Bowden James
Edward Leopold, ° 31.7.1827; + 1.10.1887. Domiciled at this address from 31.12.1866. Recorded in the foreigners register as an artist-painter. Left for Antwerp on 21.7.1868.
1880 * - 1887 + Anvers - Borgerhout, Chaussée de Turnhout, 308 renumbered 318<81 ca> or 329<87> [Turnhoutschebaan]
Successor: Walton Edward (Fils)
The Antwerp population registry first recorded Edward Walton as an artist-painter who arrived from Sunderland [GB] in August 1862. He resided at different addresses in Antwerp in 1863, 1866, 1872 and 1875, each time recorded as an artist-painter. His stay in Belgium was punctuated with returns to his native region: his son and eventual successor, Edward Joseph, was born in Durham [GB] on 4.11.1869 and Walton declared returning from Darlington [GB] in August 1872. He had operated in Darlington, Grange Road, under the trading name "Flemish Photographic Studio", c. 1870.
Arrived at no. 308 subsequently renumbered 318 on 19.2.1880 and left on 13.4.1882. CV at no. 308 bearing credit "Walton & Cie", then CV with no first name at no. 318. Recorded as a painter resident at no. 329 on his death certificate. It is quite possible that Edward (Fils) assisted his father and may even have taken over running the studio before his father's death.
