Predecessor: Wante [Constant] & Vandenabeele [A.] Successor: Wante Constant & Fils
Constant Casimir, ° 23.02.1815; + 3.10.1883. Landscape painter in Ghent from 1838 onwards and drawing master at the State Secondary School in Ghent and at the provincial "Institut normal". Recorded as a drawing master on his son's birth certificate in January 1864. Sometimes initials "D" or "G" in the directories. "Agreeably situated in a garden at ground level, carriages may drive up to the very door of the studio" (Le Bien Public, 30.9.1872). The trading name seems to have continued for a couple of years after Wante's death. This may have been less a matter of filial piety than his son's decision to use up a stock of pre-printed card mounts in Constant Wante's name.
