Activity
1887 * - 1889 Courtrai, Quai du Dauphin, 4 / Rue du Dauphin, 3
° 22.11.1857. On CV, "near Pont de la Lys". Arrived from Erfurt [D] on 7.8.1886 and was initially an operator with Veuve Auguste De Bedts (see that name). He moved into his own premises on 1.4.1887. His father Arnold Weck (see that name) briefly joined Paul Julius in Courtrai and was registered as a photographer at this address from early February to mid-May 1887 before leaving for Brussels. There may have been a partnership at this address, since a local trade directory lists "Weck - Nys", Quai du Dauphin, in 1889. Paul Julius left Courtrai probably in July 1889 and was removed from the population register in July 1890.
1898 * - 1903 / Bruxelles, Place de la Chapelle, 14 or 28<02>
Predecessor: Weck Arnold & [ses] Fils Successor: Meulendyck Joseph (at no. 28)
Recorded as a photographer resident in Brussels aged 42 at his brother Théodore's wedding on 25.10.1899 and aged 43 at his brother Hermann's wedding on 1.5.1901. Generally "Paul" in the directories; "Weck, Y." in the Monod directory, 1903. Weck was removed from the population register on 12.1.1904 and it was noted that he had left several months prior. The trade name "American Art Studio" and medal awarded in Chicago in 1893 point to past activity in the United States in the period between his departure from Courtrai and his arrival in Brussels. Weck had in fact taken passage from Rotterdam [NL] to New York City in June 1893 and would probably have stayed in the USA for several years.
